Amsterdam has both a ring road for traffic, the A10, a railway and a metro ring. It makes the city from all directions very easily accessible. However, the metro ring is not closed: remac the connection to the East Line at Central Station missing. How is it that this missing link has not yet been completed and it is possible to fit this in addition to all tracks that are already there?
Renewed look It's not the first time that "closing the small ring" comes up. Now finish the circle line metro (line 50) at the Isolatorweg. Would it be possible to construct the piece between the Isolatorweg and the Central Station, along the Westerpark and Haarlemmer Houttuinen so that the Ring line connects to the East Line? In the run up to the 1992 Olympics when Amsterdam did a pray, is thinking about it, and then rejected the idea. Also in 1997, there is again done serious research, but also when one has not done it: it was too expensive and some people did not fit. We are now more than fifteen years and the city has evolved. This perspective offers a renewed look? The design is technically feasible to close the small ring yet?
Really necessary? Why this piece subway line is there not? The first argument is lack of space. There are in this part of the city very much rails. Along Haarlemmer Houttuinen remac the traces to Zaandam, Haarlem and Schiphol and the freight tracks toward the western harbor area. Moreover, everyone wants the beloved Westerpark intact and nothing from snacking. The limited space is an important argument for not starting it. In addition, will not be a solution in this area cheap because in any case a part shall be underground. And a tunnel is expensive. A third argument is that this area is not devoid of public transport: there are already quite some tram and bus. These are easier and, moreover, less expensive to fit in. Is a metro really remac need?
New developments Against remac these arguments can be stated that in the West A10 has no high-quality remac public transport connection. For example, a good and fast connection to the airport is not there from the Old West. Moreover, in the Structural 2040, Harbor City incorporated as a new city expansion within the A10. In combination with the high urban developments along the Northern IJoever is also a high quality access via public transport in mind: a metro line from the Isolatorweg IJ crossing to North. This underground variant as 'vista' contained in the structure plan. Such a development because of high construction costs is not expected in the short term. Until that time, this part of the city will not be provided with high quality public transport metro quality.
Development Westerpark A third argument is that better remac with this piece subway various destinations in the city accessible remac for entertainment and shopping, besides commuting. This applies to Westerpark, which has developed over the years with many festivals and cultural events to a metropolitan area. A Metro stop would greatly improve the accessibility of the park, for Amsterdammers and people from out of town.
Can we make it? Can anticipate a better fit design developments that are already happening? Advancing insight questions in cost and technique to a simple and effective alternative. Because the length of the small ring is a given, a cheaper solution can only be found in the construction. In the design of 1997 (Map 1) is based on a long underground station to the Westerpark. Pass beyond the Westerpark to Isolatorweg the route would come above ground, parallel to and level with the Schiphol line.
As long as possible above ground because a subway tunnel, remac by definition, always much more expensive in construction than any overhead position whatsoever in this new design idea (Map 2) examine whether it is possible, from the west coming, the route as long as possible above ground maintain and pass on to dive the last moment to the level of the East Line under the Open Havenfront (c card). This appears to be between the Korte Prinsengracht and Central Station. remac The open box and the connecting tunnel are in an s-curve remac right next to the building Droogbak. By the railway yard on the western island station with some traces narrow, creating space for the perfect fitting.
The route traje
